2016 YEAR IN PHOTOS

2016

2016 ended up being a monster of a year. For us the year was benchmarked by the grand re-opening of our new permanent location in Escondido, CA.

The launch of the new ship started off with a residency by international collective 1+1=3 (sponsored by The Swedish Arts Grants Committee, The Swedish Arts Council and Innovativ Kultur).

In May we brought Rhodopsin to the FILMATIC Festival at UCSD collaborating with Greg Smaller, Animal Cracker Conspiracy, Zac Monday and Scarlet Checkers from Circus Mafia.

Then in June our grand re-opening of the new ship aptly titled, FELICITA, featured 25+ artists including the San Dieguito Synchro Swimmers, a community toast lead by artist Wendell Kling and music by Christine Shields and Sean Francis Conway.

We'd like to thank the many new friends we made this past year who volunteered their time and helped get the new ship sailing. Including C2SI Construction Company and Lee Adams for donating their services and supplies in the construction of our new music stage.

The opening of Flat Earth in September w/ 700 visitors was one of our largest events we've had to date. Over 30+ artists participated in the event which featured performances by internationally acclaimed band the Mekons along with Sun Foot (visual artist Chris Johanson), Sam Coomes (QUASI) and M. Goner.

Finally at the end of the year we closed the FLAT EARTH show with a visit from artist Shaun O’Dell w/ a special Rhodopsin experience. In addition to our shows and residencies we were awarded the 2016 Neighborhood Reinvestment Grant to help lay the groundwork for the construction of our planed recording studio and performance space.
